Happy New Year!!
Dear All,
Happy New Year everyone.
I don’t remember when we last had a white Christmas but although it didn’t snow on Christmas Day the very low temperatures allowed for a frost as deep and crisp and even as any sung in a Christmas carol. Everywhere sparkling and shimmering in the pale winter sun, a gift indeed.
We started the Christmas celebrations quite early with the party on December the third, even so the weather did it’s best to catch us out! Not perturbed by the skating rink conditions many of you managed to join us and a very pleasant evening was enjoyed although we had to sing the carols unaccompanied as our musician for the evening did not manage to get through…….many thanks to members of St. Augustin’s church who led the many rousing choruses from hastily printed carol sheets!
The festivities continued with a mixture of more carol concerts, special activities and The Christmas Quiz, along with themed menus ( an Alpine fondue, A Taste of France,……..lots of croissants and chocolate, no snails….and Christmas “down-under”, BBQ’d chicken; we could almost have been there!) and a bit of fun dispensing seasonal drinks form the bar set up in the Sitting Room, mulled wine, pink fizz and a selection of sherries.
New Year arrived with much milder conditions, no-one except the night staff actually saw it in, but we had a special lunch on New Year’s day and raised a glass of Champagne and exchanged good wishes for the year ahead. We extend these to you all.
Excitingly we are now well under way with our building project, and if the weather is not too severe we have every hope of having the new rooms completed by the end of March. These are only a small part of the on-going plans to renovate and enlarge the building which will also encompass the creation of a large new conservatory, a new Dining Room, better kitchen facilities, and new assisted bath and shower rooms. Some of you will have noticed that the Managers office is now on the second floor , along with the Directors’ suite, and here again development is planned to bring the lift to this floor , create a Medication room and a Visitors room where it will be possible to offer family, friends, and Care professionals, somewhere private to meet and hold discussions with the Staff and Residents. We remain resolute in our aim to upgrade and improve to offer the very best in all our services.
We are pleased to introduce our new website: www.evergreenscarehome.co.uk
When you visit us on it you will see we are able to keep you updated with news, photographs and information and we thank those of you who have already “starred” in the pictures on the site and in the new brochure for your kind permission to use the shots, be assured of red carpet treatment when you visit!
So happily forward into Spring, well we’re not quite there yet but the nights are during out and the prospect of the better weather will surely be realised in the not too distant future. In the meantime we can only wish you all good health and to all the families and friends look forward to seeing you whenever you pop by, remember you are welcome to join us for coffee and biscuits ,or tea and homemade cakes , or lunch (by arrangement with the kitchen) especially on special occasions like a Resident’s Birthday Our themed Saturdays continue with a “Taste of Italy “ on January 22nd and a “Taste of Greece” on February 19th………come travel the world with us!
So, with much to look forward to here’s wishing everyone a wonderful 2011.
