What better than a wee dram, Scottish smoked salmon and handmade haggis with all the trimmings?

Leye’s Little Slip-Up!

Firstly I hope you have all had a very Happy Christmas and been able to enjoy some time off with family and friends and lots of festive cheer.

Unfortunately Frank and my plans have been rather scuppered by my managing to slip over on icy decking on December 18th, cracking my hip and fracturing my wrist in the process. I do feel very silly, and more than a little frustrated, and find myself hobbling about on a zimmer frame experiencing all too closely the problems so many of our Residents have! It’s probably just the lesson all Care Home owners should have! However I was very much looking forward to being at The Evergreens throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays and helping to ensure everyone had a very special time.

All the Staff have been wonderful stepping up, changing their own plans and filling in with all the extra tasks from hunting down the sherry and mince pies for Father Christmas, to making the tables look perfect for the festive meals. Marjorie, Noel, Cheryl and Corin have kept the seasonal food flowing and Debbie has somehow managed to keep the “big family” organised and content.

I thank you all very much and wish everyone the happiest of New Years, and good health in 2012. I’ll be back just as soon as I can.

Fantastic Christmas Trip!

Well weren’t we lucky! On Saturday 10th December, our intrepid residents donned their hats and scarves and ventured out into the fresh seaside air.

The minibuses picked us up mid-afternoon and whisked the explorers off to Poole Harbour. We were treated to some great hospitality from the Haven Hotel, having been met by a welcome party who proceeded to serve up silver trays with mulled wine and homemade sausage rolls. The view couldn’t have been better, with the orange sunset, ‘ploughed’ sky and the boats meandering past on the calm water.

Once darkness had fallen, we returned via the high streets of Bournemouth via Westbourne to see the Christmas lights and well earned sleep in the chair!

Well, autumn is truly upon us, the evenings are drawing in, so that gives us the perfect excuse to cosy things up at The Evergreens, with some autumn events. We’ve got some Ghoulishly Great and Sparklingly Super things planned for Halloween and Bonfire Night.

New Look Evergreens!

We’re pleased to announce that our building works have been completed, giving us 3 brand new rooms and a lovely spacious new Orangery style conservatory, complete with a fully glazed roof which protects from extra heat in the sun but keeps the room warmer in the cold. Mayoral Visit to Present NVQ Awards

Our hard working staff had their achievements recognised by the attendance of the Deputy Mayor on 19th April, who presented them with their NVQ Certificates following the guidance and assessment of our trainer Donna Purcell from JHP Training. Donna has been very committed to helping us with our investment in our staff’s training and has really helped all those studying for their NVQ in Social Healthcare. Everyone dressed up smart and it was a lovely afternoon where the Deputy Mayor took the time out of a busy schedule to not only congratulate our staff but also to chat with all our residents. We were all honoured by the Deputy Mayors kind words of encouragement as well as enjoying the lovely weather that accompanied the tea, sandwiches, cakes and Pink Fizz!

We try and keep you as up to date as possible with what’s going on at The Evergreens, so please do take a look regularly to see what’s happening….here’s our a taste for April:

April 19th, 2pm – 3.45pm – NVQ Award Ceremony with The Deputy Mayor

Recognition of the hard work that all our staff have put in to advancing their skills with the help of our NVQ assessor Donna Purcell from JHP Training. The Deputy Mayor will be in attendance to present awards.

April 22nd -25th - Easter

Arrival of Living Eggs. Watch us create our very own ‘home-grown’ baby chickens. Watch them pop out of their shells in front of your eyes! Entertainment for all the family.

We are also running a Special Easter Menu over the Easter period.

April 29th – Royal Wedding Celebration

We will be celebrating the Royal Wedding in style at The Evergreens so you are more than welcome to join us on Friday 29th April. We are also putting on a special menu for the residents to mark the occasion.
